Cloud PABX in the UAE: The Business Phone System Without the Box on the Wall

What Cloud PABX does, what it replaces, what it costs — and why it is already sitting inside your business internet package.

Walk into an older office in Deira or Al Quoz and you will often find a beige box screwed to the wall of a store room, with a nest of cables running out of it. That is a PBX — the machine that made your desk phones work. It cost real money, someone has to maintain it, and when it dies your phones die with it.

Cloud PABX is that box, moved into the operator's cloud. Same extensions, same transfers, same "press 1 for sales" menu — no hardware in your office, no maintenance contract, and no capital purchase. For most UAE SMEs, the interesting part is that it now arrives bundled with the business internet line rather than as a separate project.

The feature list matters less than one practical consequence: a three-person company can present the same phone front door as a fifty-person company. A caller hears a proper menu, reaches the right person, and never learns that "the sales department" is one person with a laptop in a co-working space.

What It Costs in the UAE

Here is the part that surprises people: on e& business internet packages, Cloud PABX is not a separate line on the bill. It is bundled, along with a business voice line and 7,500 fixed-to-fixed minutes, into packages that start at AED 1,095 per month for 200 Mbps. If you are already paying for business internet, you may well be paying for a phone system you have not switched on.

That is worth checking. We regularly meet companies running an ageing PBX box, paying a maintenance contract on it, while an unused Cloud PABX sits in the internet package they already buy. The full list of what is bundled at each tier is on the business internet plans page, and the wider B2B stack is explained in the e& B2B solutions guide.

Do You Actually Need It?

Be honest about your call volume. If your business runs entirely on WhatsApp and email and nobody ever calls your landline, a phone system is not your priority — spend the attention on your office WiFi instead.

But if customers call you — clinics, agencies, trading companies, service businesses, anyone with a number printed on a vehicle or a shopfront — then how those calls are answered is your customer experience. A missed call is a lost order, and a caller stuck in a voicemail loop rarely calls back. That is what Cloud PABX is for: making sure the call reaches a human, wherever that human happens to be sitting.

One Thing to Get Right When Migrating

Keep your existing number. It is on your trade licence paperwork, your invoices, your Google listing and possibly the side of your vans. In most cases an existing landline number can be carried across, but confirm it for your specific number before you cancel anything — and keep the old service running until the new system is tested. It is the same overlap principle we recommend when switching internet providers: never cancel the old thing until the new thing is proven.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Cloud PABX in simple terms?

Your office phone system, running in the cloud instead of on a box on the wall. Extensions, transfers and an IVR menu — no hardware.

What does it cost?

On e& business internet packages it is bundled into the monthly plan, which starts at AED 1,095 — not a separate purchase.

Do I need desk phones?

Only where you want them. Extensions ring on a laptop or mobile app, so many SMEs keep desk phones just at reception.

Already paying for a phone system you are not using?
